2017 Fort Henry Commemoration Speaker Series

2017 marks the 240th anniversary of the first siege of Fort Henry in 1777 and the 235th anniversary of the second siege in 1782, the Last Battle of the American Revolution.

The Wheeling Chapter, NSDAR and the Fort Henry Chapter, NSSAR are teaming up to commemorate these important historical milestones by presenting a monthly speaker series throughout 2017. Sponsored by Wheeling Heritage, the series will be held on the last Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium on the lower level of West Virginia Independence Hall, 1528 Market Street, Wheeling.

Admission is free and the programs are open to the public.

For dates and speaker topics, please click on 2017 Fort Henry Commemoration Speaker Series Schedule.

Please visit the Archive Fort Henry Commemoration Speaker Series to view videos of the presentations made to date.

The commemorative speaker series was promoted by a Proclamation issued by Wheeling Mayor Glenn F. Elliott, Jr. at the first City Council meeting of 2017. He proclaimed January 3 “Fort Henry Day.”
